Watercolor Workbooks for Homeschool Kids
Watercolor workbooks built for kids ages 10 and up: full color examples, step-by step written directions, and optional video lessons they can pause, rewind, and follow at their own pace.
Why Watercolor Belongs in Every Learning Environment.
Here's the thing I learned in the classroom that I still believe more than anything else: when a kid makes something they're proud of, they try again. When they don't, they quit.
That's true for a fourth grader. It's true for the adults who email me saying they haven't picked up a paintbrush since high school. Confidence comes from evidence, not encouragement. That's what these workbooks are built to hand your kid: evidence. A finished painting they made themselves, that actually looks like something.
Not because I dumbed anything down. Every project breaks into steps small enough for a beginner to hit, one at a time, with an encouraging teacher's voice walking
alongside them the whole way. They'll pick up real watercolor technique along the way. But what tends to stick longer is the moment they finish and think: I did that. And then they want to do it again. That's the whole game.
True with art, and honestly true with most everything else too.
Built for However Your Kid Learns
For the Visual Learner
Every project opens with a full color, finished example, so your kid knows exactly
what they're working toward before the brush touches paper.
For the Auditory Learners
A video lesson for every single project, narrated step by step, that your kid can pause, rewind, and listen to at their own speed. This changes everything. A kid who won't sit through a 15 minutes lecture face to face, will follow a 15 min video they're in control of.
For the Reading and Writing Learners
Clear, step-by-step written directions walk through exactly what to do next and how to do it. No guessing, no googling, no parent required to translate.
For the Kinesthetic Learners
This is the one every kid benefits from, no matter how they learn best: brush in hand, mixing colors, and making the actual marks on the actual page.
Watching or reading only gets a kid so far. The hands-on part is where it clicks.

The Thing That Makes Your Curriculum Stick.
Hi, I'm Alyssa. I make watercolor workbooks, and I get the same question at almost every homeschool conference table: “Is this a curriculum?”
Honest answer: no. And it's not supposed to be.
What I've built is a hands-on art activity that sits alongside whatever you're already teaching. Something your kid can open, paint in, and finish. No lesson planning, no wondering if you're “doing art right.” Just a project, start to finish, that gets your kid's hands moving and gives them something real to hold up when they're done.
That's the part I think homeschool families are actually looking for when they ask about curriculum. Not more instruction. More making.
The Teacher Behind the Workbooks
I hold a BA in Visual Arts Education and spent five years teaching art in public elementary schools before I went full-time with my own art business. I've been featured on Twin Cities Live and Fox 9's Good Day, and I teach watercolor to 40,000+ followers online every week.
I'm not an artist who figured out how to explain things after the fact. I was trained in how kids learn before I ever sold a painting. That's the difference you'll feel in every workbook:
real technique, taught by a teacher and artist.

Answering Your Questions about Watercolor Workbooks
What ages are these workbooks good for?
They're built for confident beginners ages 10 and up: kids who can read multi-step
directions on their own, or can follow along with a video tutorial. If they're ready to learn new techniques, not just color for fun, this is for them!
They don't need any prior art experience to be successful, but fine motor skills will definitely come in handy 😉
Is this tech free?
Yes and no. The full color example and written directions work completely on their own if you'd rather keep screens out of your kid's learning experience. The video is a great option for kids who learn best
by watching, but it's not a requirement.
What supplies do we need?
You know that eight color set that you already have in a drawer? That's all you need. Any watercolor supplies will do! I complete every example with this eight color paint set and brush. The brush I use is about a size 4 if you're shopping for new supplies.
My kid says they're “not good at art.” Will this still work?
Yes! Every project is broken into small, achievable steps, so kids get a real win instead of a blank page and a lot of pressure. Most of the growth happens in the moment they finish something and realize they can do this. As long as they're open to learning something new, they can be successful!
Can I use the collection with more than one kid?
Each workbook is built for one artist. Every page you paint has the next project's directions printed on the back, so tearing pages out to share between kids doesn't really work.
If your kids want to paint at different times, you can assign each of them their own pages within the same book. But since pages are shared front-and-back, the smoothest setup is one book per kid. That way each one gets the full range of techniques, plus a finished collection of their own work in one place — no sharing required.
Is this an art curriculum?
No, and that's on purpose. Think of it as the hands-on piece that's easy to slot into whatever curriculum or unstructured learning you're already doing. No lesson plans, no scope and sequence. Just a finished project.

"I have taken a ton of art/craft classes over the years with different instructors and can honestly say, you were one of the best instructors. I really liked how organized, simple and understandable your teaching style is, particularly the step-by-step process. It seemed all calculated for students to leave feeling very successful - which I did!" — Susan
